About

Ted Yamamoto has been a venture capitalist for 25 years, specialising in creating companies based on breakthrough sciences. Ted was awarded first place on Forbes Japan's Midas List 2020, a VC ranking based on annual capital gains. Ted currently serves on the board of Nanofiber Quantum Technologies. Ted is also an Advisor to the Office of the Present at WASEDA University since 2021. Until 2020, Ted was a partner and board director for 12 years at UTEC (The University of Tokyo Edge Capital), a leading deep-tech venture capital firm associated with The University of Tokyo. At UTEC, Ted focused on seed early-stage information technology investments, led investments and served on the boards of  Fyusion, Inc.(acquired by Cox Automotive in December 2020), Mujin, Inc.(MBO in February 2019), Autonomous Control Systems Laboratory Ltd./ACSL ( IPO in December 2018 - 6232:TYO), Phyzios, Inc. (acquired by Google in February 2013), Naked Technology Inc. (acquired by mixi, Inc. in September 2011), etc. 

Before joining UTEC in July 2008, he spent 14 years at Mitsui & Co., Ltd. At Mitsui, he was a core member of its venture capital operation in the US and Japan. In 1997 he was also seconded to Nippon Venture Capital Co. as a Deputy General Manager. Ted's other experiences at Mitsui include incorporating FeliCa Pocket Marketing, Inc. - a Joint Venture with Sony Corp., where he served as a Senior Manager to promote new businesses around Sony's contact-less IC chip FeliCa technology.

Ted read Physics at the University of Oxford, holds MA (Oxon.) and is currently an Executive MBA Oxrofd Alumni Scholar at the Saïd Business School.
